I am pleased to write a letter in gratitude for the wonderful opportunity to tour the country of South Africa during our recent FAM trip. South Africa has always been a destination I wanted to add to my portfolio so this trip was THE perfect way to experience the region. As you know, I have a South Africa group trip planned for 2024 and this opportunity to conduct site visits of hotels, attractions, and game drives was just what I needed to market this bucket list destination to my clients. Please pass along my thanks to Owen with Roots Africa, our Table Mountain hosts, and to our South Africa Tourism representatives to let them know this experience was priceless for me. From Johannesburg to CapeTown, I truly gained a vast amount of insight that I will share with all I meet. I cannot believe that 2 weeks ago that I was enjoying my amazing South Africa experience! I am honored to have been hosted by the South African Tourism Board and Association of Black Travel Professionals on this once-in-a-lifetime experience! Thank you so much Veranda Adkins and Shawnta Harrison for the great itinerary that you help curate! Like many other experiences, I always get time to reflect on the struggles and injustices of others. Though the posts that have previously posted shows the more "glamorous* side of the destination, there is a strong history of oppression and suffering. I am pledging to make return to South Africa and to take others with me. Sadly, there were not a lot of tourists that were People of Color and I want to change that! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the new destination, new experiences, and new connections. Travel Agents, if you're looking to join an organization that is working hard to increase representation in our industry, please join ABTP!

Being a travel advisor is an exciting, adventurous, yet most times stressful job. Most people will look at the 'Glitz & Glam" and think, oh she's living it up, but in reality it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and commitments. A group of 20 Travel Advisors took time out of their schedule to travel to South Africa with an amazing organization, the Association of Black Travel Professionals in partnership with the South African Tourism Board. There were long days and nights, very early mornings sacrificing emotionally, physically, financially, and getting no sleep. We learned so much while visiting so many locations, hotels, people, animals, the entire trip. We did all of this while still booking and processing our clients across the world. True Dedication! Thank you Veranda Adkins and Shawnta Harrison for your visions in creating ABTP and for supporting Black Travel Professionals. I am a proud member and appreciate all the hard work and dedication that you both put into helping make ABTP a safe place for us, by us, to help us in. Looking forward to what's next!

This time last week I was preparing to board my flight to South Africa with this group of 20, some that I already knew but not everyone. Thanks Association of Black Travel Professionals (as well as Roots Africa and the South Africa Tourism Board). We had a time! I'm still not completely adjusted from it! I don't think y'all could've selected a better group. Here's to days of calling and saying you got plans next week... Let's go to insert destination* If you are a travel agent and you haven't joined ABTP, you should do it like yesterday.
